It would be near-impossible to overstate the impact that Chan had on the domestic youth scene on his entrance, but he soon had thousands clogging up previously mostly-empty grounds, wherever he went.

"If he's not Messi or Ronaldo, he's surely pretty damn close." was a common refrain.

Further, as time wore on, it dawned on those around him that Chan was almost too good to be believed.
