A strikingly careful and calculated passer even as a raw trainee, Mohammad Ramli Saliman was soon ironically nicknamed "Sala" by his mates, in reference to his seeming inability to commit mistakes.

Despite that, this conservatism played against him in wider perception, and he was not all that highly heralded when he left for Italy upon turning pro. Solid performances saw former Ecuadorian champions Fuler take an interest, however, and he nearly picked up a national title in his teens there, alongside two U-20 caps.
