Leong took a circuitous route to the Grilled senior squad, which began when the then 17 year-old was deemed good enough not to require more polishing with the reserves, but not quite good enough to warrant permanent grooming.

This meant that the large if slightly ponderous forward, who youth squad observers agreed had peaked early with the Wings, featuring in just two games, would have to go, and he snagged a free transfer full of promise to the famed attack of BDSM FC.
